… pretty much all of my “recipes“… ok… concoctions… are stolen from friends… magazines… cook books… websites such as cooks.com… and especially from my MOMMA… musings
… but there is another culinary attribute i got from my mother… we can’t leave a recipe alone…
… doesn’t matter if it’s a never-been-tried… or tried-and-true… we’ve got to switch it up a little… swap this for that… add more berries… throw in some bacon…maybe just change up the cheeses… or add butterscotch…
…when baking… always add vanilla or pumpkin pie spice… that’s a blanket rule…
…sometimes this ends with success and accolades… other times it ends with an awkward consistency or peculiar taste…however… those rare instances where chided for messing with a good thing… are far outweighed by the satisfaction in having a recipe we can call our own… EVERY TIME WE MAKE SOMETHING… since it is our own recipe… thanks to our brilliant modifications…
…i encourage each of you to do the same…don’t shy away from recipes because you don’t like an ingredient… trade it for something you do love… mix and match… take the best of a few recipes… and put them together… you’ll feel more relaxed… and it will start to become an art form… something you can work with and create… something to be proud of…
